lindas-gift-bag2It’s my coworker’s birthday and I was in charge of the gift.  When it came time to wrap it up, I realized I didn’t have an appropriate bag to put it in because it needed to be quite large and I didn’t feel like driving back to Target and spending over $5 for one.  So I used what I had in my stash of handled bags and the one from Olive Garden was the right size, but obviously not the right décor.  So, patterned paper & chipboard to the rescue!  Thanks everyone for your nice comments – they always make my day!  I’ll have some blog goodies soon as a thank you!

flower-pot-card2We made 3 cards this month, 2 of which I’ll show here. I thought this cute Flower Pot card, which I’ve seen all over on different blogs and on Splitcoast, would be perfect for Mother’s Day.  I saw one card that used these die cut flowers and thought it was the perfect time to bring them out and use them. They made the project so much easier. I textured some Summer Sun card stock with the polka dots to add to their centers. I followed the pattern for making the card here. I really like how easy this card was to make!

fabulous-friend-witp2I LOVE designing square cards and since I love patterned paper so much, and especially the new Walk in the Park paper from the Occasions Mini, I designed this card. I first made it in these colors, but then realized that I didn’t have enough of that fantastic Baja Breeze satin ribbon for everyone in stamp club to be able to make it, so I changed up the papers, which also changed the colors, and came up with the next card.best-wishes-witp2 I’m not sure which one I like better! But I think it’s pretty neat that you can get both completely different looks with one package of paper!  These cards measure 5″ x 5″.

Thanks for stopping by today! We are having fantastic weather and I hope you are, too!

No, I haven’t gone on vacation (I wish!), or gotten sick (so glad!) like some of you may be thinking (waving to Barb!!).  But I’ll be back to posting tomorrow (that’s the plan) with tonight’s Stamp Club projects.  I am still busy prepping!

But, in the meantime, head on over to my friend Cori’s blog for some goodies there!  Good luck!  And thanks for stopping by today!

thinking-of-you-house-card21Here’s a card made into the shape of a house, because my friend just moved.  I didn’t have an appropriate sentiment for a new home, so I just used the “thinking of you”.  I just love the simplicity of these Trendy Trees!  I can’t get enough of them.

I used the Texturz embossing plate on the triangle that became the roof to mimic shingles.  I tied the floss through the card by poking a small whole with my paper piercer into the fold.  The card base measures 2 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ and the roof is attached with Stampin’ Dimentionals to the top front of it.

Tip: since you have to use the SAMJ (Stamp-a-majig) to line up these trees with their trunks, I make permanent sheets with each of the stamped images and keep them in the same box as the stamps.  I use the vellum card stock by SU! and cut it so that it fits inside the box.  This is also very useful for alphabet sets.  For this set, I wish I had used something lighter, like a green for the trees on my imaging sheet.  It would be easier to see when lining them up over the tree trunks.  What ink do I use?  Use whatever.  I used Black Stazon on this set, but I have also used Basic Black and it worked just fine.  Just make sure it dries completely or it might smudge.  Thanks for stopping by today!

welcome-baby-scallop-squares-girl2…here’s a baby girl card using the exact same layout as the last post.  In fact, I even used the same package of paper – the Walk in the Park DSP!  Since I didn’t have any Pink Pirouette textured card stock, I used my Texturz plate to make a polka dot texture on the front of the card.  I was pleasantly surprised when the sentiment worked on top of the polka dots!

At first I thought the Cameo Coral didn’t match well enough to the paper, until after I cut a letter out with it and it was perfect.  But I had already cut 4 letters out in the Regal Rose and wasn’t about to scrap those to cut 3 more out in the Cameo Coral – so there you have it!  Tip:  Sometimes using different colors can be forgiving, so give them a try!  Card measures 4 1/4″ square.  Thanks for stopping by today!

{welcome baby girl ingredients}

Stamps: Schoolbook Serif Alphabet, Warm Words

Paper: Pink Pirouette & Whisper White card stock, Walk in the Park DSP

Ink: Regal Rose, Whisper White craft

Accessories: scallop square punch, winter white embossing powder, heat tool, 1/4″ white grosgrain ribbon, stampin’ dimentionals, craft knife, SU! Backgrounds Texturz plate by Sizzix, Big Shot by Sizzix

welcome-baby-scallop-squares2Here’s a simple card using the gorgeous Walk in the Park paper from the Occasions Mini catalog – a scalloped square of several patterns make a pretty background for the letters spelling b.a.b.y.  Yes, the cutting out and applying small pieces of stampin’ dimentionals WAS a pain, but I really love cutting, so it’s right up my alley.  Card measures 4 1/4″ square.

Just a quick post today.  A big thanks to all of you for stopping by!  You really make my day with your nice comments!

…hopping down the bunny trail…trip.  Oh that just cracked my son up when I told him that one!

dallin-birthday-robin2And speaking of my son, it’s his birthday today!  He had his birthday on Easter when he was little and I baked him an adorable bunny cake.  He said he’d pass on one this year – I guess he’s just too old for that now that he’s 14.  But he told me he wanted a coconut cake, so I found a new recipe online and baked it last night.  It made the whole house smell amazing!  I can’t wait to try it.  He told me this spring that his favorite bird is a robin, so I grabbed this retired stamp from Touch of Nature to make him a birthday card.  I colored him and then used the basic elements from this card from my friend, Cindy for the layout.  I used the To the Nines Specialty Paper – which is super to work with!  Happy Birthday, Sweetheart!

Thanks for stopping by today and have a blessed Easter!

{Robin birthday card ingredients}

Stamps: Fun & Fast Notes, Touch of Nature (retired)

Paper: Kraft, Naturals Ivory, & Always Artichoke card stock, To the Nines Specialty paper, watercolor paper

Ink: Black Stazon, Basic Black, various re-inkers for coloring bird

A wee bit of sewing

happy-birthday-with-trees2Each month I give my stamp club girls a challenge of some kind.  Sometimes I give them an item to use on a project, sometimes I have them do a certain technique or use a certain something on a project, and bring it to stamp club for a chance to win a small prize.  This month’s challenge is to do some kind of sewing – whether it’s with a sewing machine, like I did here on this card for my former Tennessee neighbor, hand sewing, or even faux stitching.

I saw this card (2nd one) and thought it would make an excellent masculine card.  I opted not to do a pop-up on the inside of mine (but dang, isn’t hers adorable!?).  So wanting to use my Stampin’ Up! stash, I used the tree from Forest Friends and decided not to ink up the leaves in green.  I used the retired In-Color River Rock, stamping it off once, for the background trees.  Card measures 4 1/4″ square.

Thanks for stopping by – be sure to come back on Easter Sunday as I’ll have an Easter card, and a birthday card for my son!

A Great Friend

love-to-chat-with-you2One of the first things I wanted from the Occasions Mini catalog is this stamp set, called Great Friend.  I just love every image/sentiment in there!  It’s so elegant and timeless.  I found this card layout on the SU! website and used some of the colors from the new Designer Series Paper, Walk in the Park, which is also in the mini.  There is no stamping on this card, but instead I used the Loop to Loop rub-ons from the Hostess Level 3 Hand Drawn Bundle, to which the font coordinates with the one in the stamp set!  A super easy card – another reason to visit the Stampin’ Up! website – such inspiration!  Card measures 3″ x 6″.  Thanks for stopping by today!

hello-there-owl2I had this little leftover piece of embossed dots paper and wanted to use it, so I paired it with this little owl from the Hostess Level 3 stamp set, Goody Goody Gumdrops.  I think he’s so cute!  I shamelessly CASEd Alli Miles’ card here – oh how I love her style!   I used the yummy Sweet Always paper, which I’ve had for a long time and still love!  Those polka dots on the Chocolate Chip background, along with the same, but white background paper, makes me want ice cream for some reason!  Good thing there’s none in the house right now!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

“Cutie” baby card

baby-boy-cutie2I had this piece of white card stock, embossed with those awesome tiny dots sitting on my desk – begging to be used.  I wanted to do something different, so I decided to go with a scalloped card.  I needed several baby cards so thought I should get to work on those.  This is for my good friend Carolyn, who had her baby boy last week!  I’m so excited for her and she is an amazing crafter so I really wanted this card to be special.  I hope she likes it!

I wanted to go for more of a scrappy look, and this proved to be a huge challenge for me, as the card sat around, partially unfinished for quite awhile before it all came together.  But I’m crazy for the color combo and think SU! missed the boat on this one – I think Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red & Basic Gray should have been made into a boy’s Simply Scrappin’ Kit!  Oh well, they didn’t ask me!  And even if they would have, I wouldn’t have discovered this color combo in time anyway, so really it’s not their fault.

A couple of things to note, and the rest is self-explanatory.  I made the card base out of a folded piece of Baja Breeze and ran it through my Big Shot using the Scallop Circle die (it’s nearly 4 1/2″ in diameter).  You have to lower the fold to just below 4 scallops in order to get it to be a fold at the top.  Then I ran my embossed dots paper through and glued it onto the front of the card so that you cannot see the fold.  I also did something different on the ribbon treatment, making a “faux bow”.

faux-bow-loop2First, I just made a large loop with tails hanging to the sides.

faux-bow-pinch2Then, I pressed down in the middle of the loop to where it looks like a bow.

faux-bow-with-button2Lastly, I sewed the button right there.  Trim the ends and now you have a much flatter bow!  I attached it right to the card front using SU! sticky strip.

And you know what I was thinking after I finished the card?  I want to make another one!  Then I realized there were only so many “b” letters and then came up with the idea, “Why don’t I use the first initial of the baby’s name?”  Then I can make lots!  And of course with the awesome alphabet sizzlit, I can even put the baby’s name right on there!  I seriously LOVE that die!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

thinking-of-you-owls2If you’ve followed my blog very much, you might know how infatuated I am with owl images.  I don’t want a real one, I just like images of owls – especially whimsical ones.  This little guy is another one of the Forest Friends in the stamp set from the Occasions Mini catalog.

I colored him with markers and after masking off the flower pot, I stamped him “inside” each pot.  I stamped the pot one more time on some retired SU! paper, called Outlaw, because it was the only paper I had with similar coloring to the pots I water colored.  I then tied some linen thread around the pot and adhered it with glue dots.  That tiny flower on the first pot is cut out from a piece of Bella Rose DSP.  I saw someone had made some cards using animals peeking out of squares on the Hero Arts blog, and it gave me this idea to use a flower pot and my cute little owl!

I used my new Texturz plate for the card base.  I can see myself using those a lot!  I did what others’ recommended and sprayed my Kraft card stock with a fine mist of rubbing alcohol before running it through my Big Shot.  I found it problematic, actually, to only emboss the card front.  I had a hard time with the silicone rubber pad slipping out as I cranked it through, thus not embossing exactly where I wanted it to.  I was trying to only emboss the card front.  I had a difficult time.  Does anyone have any ideas?

I tried sewing around the edges of the Not Quite Navy paper, but it looked terrible.  (My mom would be so ashamed).  So I started over and this time just paper pierced around the edges.  Much better for me!  Card measures 4 7/8″ x 4 3/4″, but that’s only because I had to butcher it a bit to get the darn embossed dots to be straight.  It was supposed to be 5″ x 5″.  Hmmm.  I need to work on that embossing I guess.  Don’t let my experience deter you from getting those plates…they are such a good value, and I’m sure I will “get it” soon enough after I play with it some more.  Thanks for stopping by today!
