When I was looking for an image to use inside a pop up card – I saw this little chipboard bird sitting on my desk and knew he’d be perfect! I just love adding patterned paper to chipboard! Using the same technique as in my last post with the word window punch, I decided to add some patterned paper behind the bird as a backdrop. I love the little pear hanging from the tree behind! Now, I did make a mistake on this one, but wasn’t about to start over after I got as far as I did, because for one thing I kept cutting into the pear-tree paper so much just to get that one little piece! I cut it sideways first, then too short again, etc. Anyway, I wanted the bottom part of the inside of the card to be “plain” so that I could stamp on it, so I used the Kiwi Kiss Patterns paper for the bottom.
Here’s where I went wrong: I accidentally did NOT score the white card stock in the middle, but rather slightly off. When I added the 2 kinds of patterned paper, I didn’t realize it still, so these were already glued down and the word window punches were already punched out. When I tried to glue this onto my Chocolate Chip card base, I realized my error. So, to compensate, I just had to adjust my card base, and hope the recipient doesn’t mind too much that the front of the card is actually 1/4″ shorter than the back! Dang!
I will say that adding 2 kinds of patterned paper to the inside was a bit tricky, as you have to make sure the glue (and I always use the Tombo – it just does a better job than most tape runners for holding power) goes all the way to the edges of the paper so that it’s seamless there.
It was tricky again, to get a good card front, since the inside really is the focus. So I tried to let my patterned paper play an important part on the front, and kept the rest very simple. I used the new Billboard Sizzlits Decorative strip in my Big Shot to make the sentiment. Can I just tell you – I LOVE it! It is so easy to use and much easier than using my QuicKutz, which I just had used a few days ago so it was fresh in my mind. The letters come out so much easier and are so much faster to make – score! I love having an endless supply of letters in any color I choose. I glued the letters onto an embossed rectangle. That’s a little strip of Summer Sun card stock in the button for a pop of color.
Thanks for stopping by today! Have a good one!

I find I’m more critical of my cards. I doubt the recipient will notice the size difference. I’m all about the letters too. I have the serif, but I’ve been needing smaller. Looks like these are the ones for me. Thanks for sharing, its a great card…I’m starting to really love this paper.

Hey Jackie,
So sorry I haven’t been in touch lately – just too darn busy, busy! I want to let you know these pop-up cards are too darn cute. I can hardly wait to try one. They have always intimidated me before, but your little tutorial makes it look pretty easy! Thanks so much for that. One other thing…you have to check out my site (my projects, Parisian Breeze card) just because I used one of your cards for a workshop. I cased a little bit differently but what I want you to know is when I asked my gals for their fav of the night, the card from you was – Hands Down – the winner! You Rock Girl friend! Thanks Jackie for sooo much inspiration.

I stopped by the other day, but did not have time to tell you that I LOVED this card. I don’t think the receipient will notice that one side is shorter than the other. It is so amazing!
