If you’ve followed my blog very much, you might know how infatuated I am with owl images. I don’t want a real one, I just like images of owls – especially whimsical ones. This little guy is another one of the Forest Friends in the stamp set from the Occasions Mini catalog.
I colored him with markers and after masking off the flower pot, I stamped him “inside” each pot. I stamped the pot one more time on some retired SU! paper, called Outlaw, because it was the only paper I had with similar coloring to the pots I water colored. I then tied some linen thread around the pot and adhered it with glue dots. That tiny flower on the first pot is cut out from a piece of Bella Rose DSP. I saw someone had made some cards using animals peeking out of squares on the Hero Arts blog, and it gave me this idea to use a flower pot and my cute little owl!
I used my new Texturz plate for the card base. I can see myself using those a lot! I did what others’ recommended and sprayed my Kraft card stock with a fine mist of rubbing alcohol before running it through my Big Shot. I found it problematic, actually, to only emboss the card front. I had a hard time with the silicone rubber pad slipping out as I cranked it through, thus not embossing exactly where I wanted it to. I was trying to only emboss the card front. I had a difficult time. Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried sewing around the edges of the Not Quite Navy paper, but it looked terrible. (My mom would be so ashamed). So I started over and this time just paper pierced around the edges. Much better for me! Card measures 4 7/8″ x 4 3/4″, but that’s only because I had to butcher it a bit to get the darn embossed dots to be straight. It was supposed to be 5″ x 5″. Hmmm. I need to work on that embossing I guess. Don’t let my experience deter you from getting those plates…they are such a good value, and I’m sure I will “get it” soon enough after I play with it some more. Thanks for stopping by today!

Barb
so darn cute!
Looks great! Love that little owl peeking out. so adorable!
Oooh… I love your card!! I really wish I wasn’t horrible with stamps… LOL!!! Owls are a soft spot for me too! SO cute!
I really like your card. The owls peeking out of the pots are SO cute. When I emboss using the texturz plates I don’t bother to try to emboss the entire front of my card. I just cut a piece of paper 1/4″ smaller and emboss on it. I have had some pretty bad results trying to emboss just the front of my card.
Oh my gosh, what a clever idea you had with the owl!!! I love that peek-a-boo effect. Awesome!
